Gifts that Don’t Create Clutter
In a perfect world, holidays would be thoroughly enjoyed and have very little evidence remaining after the holiday ends (and that includes dirty dishes and trash!).
Now that Black Friday and hard-core shopping season is upon us, consider these ‘non-clutter’ type gifts for the special people in your life (these ideas were taken from 10 Heartfelt Holiday Gifts for People Who Don’t Need More Stuff). Below is a condensed version of the article for those of you who are in a hurry to go shopping NOW:
1. Restore a Prized Possession – restore/reframe an old photo or jewelry or watch.
2. Handmade items – knit, sew, brew beer.
3. Research family history and present findings in a book.
4. Donate places where you can see your money at work – donate a specific animal in someone’s honor, buy a book for a literacy program, support a job training program, be a part of supporting research, plant a tree.
5. Treat someone to an experience like a trip, dinner out, concert, cooking class.
6. Bake or buy dessert, dinner or create a cookbook filled with your favorite recipes to give to someone else.
7. Purchase a membership to a museum, aquarium, AAA, Angie’s List, Netflix.
8. Plant a tree or shrubs or flowers or make a bird feeder.
9. Buy a dividend stock or contribute to a 529 college savings plan.
10. Give the gift of yourself – allocate time to spend either having fun or helping with a project around the house.
Reminder to all the shopping enthusiasts out there –

- Consider skipping Black Friday and spend the time deciding what you can get rid so that you’ll have more room to breathe at home.
- If you must shop on Black Friday, try bringing a list of who you need to buy for rather than getting lured by ‘good deals.’
- When in doubt, leave it out – or at least pause and wait a few minutes before impulsively buying something that you may never use. (technically we’re told to wait at least 24 hours, but that’s not always possible with Black
