Organizing myths revealed
My situation is hopeless. Or, No way this will work for me. These are a couple of the most common myths about getting organized.
Guess what? They are myths! You CAN get organized, no matter what your situation is. It works whether you are a neat freak or a slob, however, most of us fall somewhere in between the two extremes. The situation is never hopeless. You simply need to take the first step and get started.
One system will work for everyone. Or, there is only one way to do things. Wrong! Everyone has different sized space and amount of clutter. What works for one person does not always work for everyone. Sometimes a matter of trial and error is necessary in order to achieve your goals. That is one reason to get a professional organizer. I will figure out what is appropriate for your unique situation.
Organizing takes too much time. Start with one little task. Rome was not built in a day. Make small inroads and you will get through it. Set a timer and see how much you can accomplish in 15 or 30 minutes. Gradually, you will discover that you can do it.
I do not have enough space to be organized. You either need to create more storage space or eliminate some of the clutter. As you remove clutter, you might actually discover hidden space you never realized you had.
I don’t want to throw away all of my belongings. While you may need to discard, donate or sell some items, you certainly do not have to get rid of everything. Keep your favorite things and let someone else enjoy the others.
You only have to organize once. Of course, there is maintenance involved. Keeping an area free of clutter once the main organization has been completed is critical in avoiding going back to the same situation you had before.
Organizing is too expensive. Never run out and buy storage containers or furniture before you begin organizing. Often times you have storage solutions that are already in your home. You may unearth things around your home that can be re-purposed. Chances are, you may not need to buy anything.
Avoid myths that knock you off track. Take the first step and start thinking about what solutions might work best for you. Feel free to give me a call if you need help.
