Unsubscribe to catalogs and emails
It’s about that time of year when catalogs start coming in the mail. Most people don’t want this deluge of catalogs whether they come through the postal service or in the form of emails.
It’s time to unsubscribe!
Of all the catalogs and sales emails, the time between Halloween and Christmas sees the biggest volume. If you buy things from home, simply visit the company’s website. Shopping online is easier and much faster than ordering by mail or over the phone. Ecommerce sites have safe and secure ways for customers to pay.
Catalog Choice is a website that helps you unsubscribe from paper catalog mailing lists. They have almost 10,000 catalog businesses in their database and will make sure you don’t hear from those companies unless you contact them.
If you want to get off digital mailing lists, it’s a little more time consuming. You have to unsubscribe. Legally, anyone who sends mass emails is supposed to have a link to unsubscribe from their mailing list. Make sure it’s a real business, you don’t want to click on a link from an unknown source.
Usually, the unsubscribe link is in a light color, most often pale gray, making it harder to find. It’s also normally in smaller type and at the very bottom of the email.
Be careful to avoid signing up for email lists when you set up an account with a business. For example, if you create an account with a company, they will usually ask you to check a box saying you would like to receive emails from them. The check box may say you want to be informed about special deals and company news. They make the wording sound appealing. Sometimes the business will have that box already checked and you have to deselect it in order to avoid their emails.
Yes, getting emails from businesses let you know when they are having a sale. But buying things you don’t need can lead to clutter. You decide when you want to shop. Odds are, they will have some sort of sale happening.
Many large companies send sales emails more than once a week, even daily emails. It can become very time consuming to go through your email and delete those every day.
With COVID-19 still having an effect on the supply chain in the US, businesses are stressing that holiday shopping should be done early this year. Because of this, paper catalogs and sale emails are starting earlier than ever. It’s the perfect time to opt out.
