December 2020: Declutter Challenge
“That which we persist in doing becomes easier — not that the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hope you are enjoying some quiet time this holiday season. I’m definitely catching up on Netflix and Amazon Prime movies…..and plugging along with my humongous knitting project that will probably take 2 years to finish. But, I digress…
Thought it might be fun (?) to pitch the idea of a Declutter Challenge for the month of January. There are a lot of versions of this game, but I prefer to keep it simple. At a specific time each day (you get to pick the time) you take one item from your home collection and put it in a trash bag, recycling bag or donation bag. We’re talking “low hanging fruit.” Don’t worry about super valuable items at this point…just random items that you no longer use that you can let go of. It could be the outer envelopes of special cards, it could be the pens that no longer work in your holders around the house or it could be the spare button collection that you will never use. Don’t overthink this…any item you pick is perfect. And if you want to be an overachiever, go right ahead but please don’t burn out early!
In preparation for the upcoming donations, go to Vietnam Veterans of America or Purple Heart and sign up for a donation pick up date…waiting time is about 2 weeks so if you sign up today, they’ll come in early January.
Who’s with me? If you want to be in the challenge, email me by December 31st. All are welcome and the only requirement for joining is the willingness to let go of items you no longer use. Remember that just talking about this stuff can have a transformational effect on even the most resistant among us. Just email me with the subject line DECLUTTER CHALLENGE. Details will be ironed out once I know how many people have signed up. There is no charge for this activity.
