Leave nothing to your family…

Leave nothing to your family
“Follow the 40% rule: When your mind is telling you that you’re done, that you’re exhausted, that you cannot possibly go any further, you’re only actually 40% done. When we get uncomfortable, our brain gives us a way out — usually quitting or taking the easier route. Face the task, keep going, and build on top of that 40%.”
-David Goggins, The Toughest Athlete on the Planet
One of the many reasons I love the Declutter Club is that it provides that added boost to keep going. And it really works!
Leave Nothing… but the good stuff?
Can you imagine that when it came time for your children or family members to sell your home, all that remained were a few (like 2) boxes of the most precious, priceless memories and some special jewelry and a few coins? Can you imagine how much those things could potentially be cherished?
And then picture your children or family members’ reactions if your home looked like this picture? I’m guessing the initial reaction would be to call a junk hauling company. In today’s world, most people do not have the time or energy to go through someone else’s house at great lengths. And that’s a big part of my business… digging through to unearth the good stuff and make the less desirable stuff go away. But back to you — consider spending 10 minutes a day… just 10 or even 15 minutes a day… going through some piles in those recesses of your home. Unearth the special things and write a little note with it. And ditch the less special things like 10,000 recipes pulled out of magazines that have never been made (no judgement… just speaking the truth of what I see), piles of National Geographics that may have been loved when they arrived but haven’t been touched in decades… and the list goes on and on.
The pandemic is now a year old, many of us had great visions of getting rid of tons of stuff while trapped at home… and many of you have! And if you have more to go… let’s use the month of March to make it happen. Once the warm weather starts, I think we’ll all be gleefully outside as much as possible. And remember that 40% rule mentioned at the start of this newsletter – you’ve got this!
