Traveling during the holiday season

Are you traveling during the holiday season this year? With the COVID-19 vaccine this year, more people are traveling this December. Here are some ways to travel and stay organized. Enjoy your trip, don’t stress over it.

Avoid waiting until the last minute to pack. Create a list with everything you want to take including footwear, clothing, medication, electronics and charging cables. Start the list at least a week ahead of time and as you remember things, add them to the list.

Remember to bring a couple masks. Rules may be different from where you live, but masks are still mandatory in a lot places. Also, take your vaccination card or a photo of your card (digital or physical) to keep on hand. Some arenas, museums, gyms, movie theaters and other places are now requiring vaccination cards for admittance.

If you are going by car, make sure your car is in good working order. Get the oil changed or do any other scheduled maintenance ahead of the trip. Make sure you have windshield wiper fluid, a car trash container, snacks, music and anything else that will make the trip more pleasant. If you make plans to rent a car, do that as soon as possible to make sure you get the type of car you want.

If you are flying, be sure you have a way to and from the airport, or figure out where to park (long or short term). It’s important to get there with plenty of time to spare. Remember to put everything you need while traveling in your carry-on bag.

Plan ahead with your gift-giving. If your gifts are large, it might be best to ship them ahead of your visit, especially if you are flying. Most companies offer gift wrapping when you purchase a gift online. You can create a personalized note to the recipient.

If you need medication, take have enough plus an extra day or two. You just never know if weather or flight delays will effect your ability to get home on time. It will be less stressful if you aren’t worrying about missing your important medication.

Many people don’t carry cash these days. It’s a good idea to take a little cash on your trip to have for tips or other incidentals.
