“Sometimes you don’t realize the weight of something until you feel the weight of its release.”

As you may have heard before, the definition of Clutter is Delayed Decision Making. Once you make your decision about letting go, you will feel lighter – it’s basically a guarantee. Try letting go of ONE hard to decide item today and see how it feels. You will not regret it. And you may even realize that the release you feel will motivate you to do it again the next day.

Going Through Family Members’ Remaining Items

It’s been a rough few months for our family. We’ve lost both of my parents and my dad’s twin sister – the last of our treasured ‘elders’ who never seemed elderly to us. I have experienced firsthand what many of you have already experienced. I am blessed that all three were in their 90’s but the loss is immense.

When a loved one passes away, the process of sorting through their belongings can feel overwhelming and deeply emotional. Yet, while it may be painful, this act holds significant emotional, practical, and even healing value.

First, going through a deceased family member’s items helps preserve memories. Each object — a photograph, a letter, a piece of clothing — tells part of their story and connects you to moments you shared. Deciding which items to keep allows you to curate a meaningful collection of memories, transforming grief into remembrance.

Second, this process offers closure. Handling your loved one’s possessions helps make their absence real, guiding you gently through the acceptance of loss. It provides a tangible way to honor their life while moving forward.

Finally, it serves a practical purpose. Sorting items ensures that valuable documents, heirlooms, or sentimental treasures are not lost, and that their home or estate can be properly settled. It can also bring families together — sharing memories, dividing keepsakes, and celebrating the person’s legacy.

Though difficult, going through a loved one’s belongings is not merely a task — it’s an act of love, reflection, and healing. In the end, it helps transform grief into gratitude for a life well lived.

If you are overwhelmed by family member’s items yet to be figured out, we can help. The Aim 4 Order family of organizers is extremely compassionate in these situations and can gently guide you through this process. Reread this article until you find the courage to get started.

Our Aim 4 Order Family Has Grown

Back in 2004, Aim 4 Order was born on an evening walk with my husband, Howard. My vision was to work one on one with clients and help them feel better about themselves and their homes. Over the years, we expanded our services and our team and we are now 13+ people strong, still with the same goal of helping our clients feel better about themselves and their homes, and now provide additional services – Senior Moves, Estate Cleanouts, Storage Unit consolidation/elimination, Home Inventories and Selling items of value for our clients. And, we still love what we do. It’s never too early to get started when you feel overwhelmed by your stuff.

We would love to make life easier for you. Email me today at cindy@aim4order.com to explore working with us.
