Father's Day doesn't have to be a clutter adding day

Happy Clutter-Free Father’s Day

Whenever there is a holiday, we tend to give gifts that add to our clutter. How about ditching those gifts this year and think about the gift of an experience?

Gift Cards

Restaurant gift cards can make a nice gift and will not add to any clutter. Give your father, husband or grandfather the gift card and hope he takes you as his guest.

If Dad has a physical job, a gift card of a massage might do the trick. A gym membership to help him get into shape is another option.

Tickets to an Event

Orioles, Ravens, the BSO or theater tickets are great clutter free gift ideas. Whether Dad is a sports fan or a fan of the arts, a gift of going to an event is an option Dad will be able to appreciate.

If he’s a real baseball fan, there are some local minor league baseball teams that offer a great value. The Bowie Baysox, Aberdeen Iron Birds and Frederick Keys within an hour from Baltimore and all of the seats are closer than big league ballparks. They’re all having better seasons than the Orioles, so it might be more fun.

Downtown

Baltimore is full of attractions that are a good time for the whole family. There are lots of museums around town including Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art and the B&O Railroad Museum to name a few. Ft. McHenry, the birthplace of the national anthem is right in Federal Hill and has a beautiful view of the surrounding water. Take the Water Taxi to add to the fun from the Inner Harbor or Fells Point or drive there directly.

Animal lovers can visit the National Aquarium https://aqua.org or the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Lots of local nature centers like Carrie Murray Nature Center, Oregon Ridge Nature Center and Irvine Nature Center have a lot of displays including some with native and exotic live animals.

Day Trips

Baltimore is close to a lot of attractions that are worthy of a day trip. Take Dad out for the day and let him enjoy the sights of Gettysburg, Antietam Battlefield and Annapolis are rich in history. A little further away is Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell.

There are some beaches that are close by, like Mayo Beach Park or Sandy Point Park that will give your Dad a beach experience without the long drive.

Consider giving one of these clutter free gifts to your dad. Whatever you decide to do with your Dad, spending time with him will be the best gift you can give him.
