One of the main reasons I love what I do is that I have the privilege of seeing the transformation that can occur in not only a person’s home, but in their head and heart as well. Just like Peter Walsh, I know for sure that decluttering can open the door to limitless possibilities in all areas of life. And it all starts with one little bag that says DONATE or TRASH on it.

The “Japanese Declutter Lady’s” Show

Marie Kondo is well known world wide as the woman who helps people declutter by asking the question “Does it spark joy?” Her books have been on the bestseller’s list for years and now she’s reaching an even bigger audience as her show on Netflix premiered recently.

I’m being asked regularly if I have seen her show or know anything about her. The answer is YES. I finally watched a few episodes and Marie Kondo is adorable. She’s sweet and warm and relatable. The people on the show are also likable. My one criticism of the show is that it magically goes from the overwhelm of seeing everything a person owns to seeing it all organized and neat in minutes. It brushes past the arduous task of going through the heaps and piles of “stuff.” The hardest part of the decluttering process is making decisions and offloading the stuff. The “Does it spark joy?” question does not always work for everyone. But, watching the show may help to get you ready for your own home. I made it through the first 3 episodes and then veered off course to watch Schitt’s Creek. I still like my saying “When in doubt, throw it out” but I don’t think that will get me to Hollywood.
