Time to get motivated and organized!
Motivated and organized in the new year
At the beginning of each year many of us make resolutions. You say you are going to go to the gym, you are going to eat more healthy, you are going to get organized. By the end of a few weeks, those resolutions tend to go right out the window. Set organizing goals and stay motivated by taking on the clutter right now.
When disorganization problems pop up, like a messy closet, entryway or bathroom, it can be difficult to stay motivated until the problem is completely eliminated. The issue can escalate to the point where you are completely overwhelmed if you don’t deal with it in a reasonable amount of time.
Unopened email (or regular mail) can accumulate quickly. Taking care of it daily can keep it a small problem. Left unopened for weeks, it becomes a time-consuming nightmare that will take a huge effort to clean up. If you get a lot of junk mail, get yourself off of mailing lists. It’s usually pretty easy with emails, you can unsubscribe to many lists. On the iPhone, when you look at your email, you can tell if someone sent the message from a mailing list and you can easily opt out of it by tapping on the word “unsubscribe.”
If it’s a clutter problem where supplies are needed, like organizing your bedroom closet or putting up shelves in your basement, you can resolve the problem with a trip to the store. Most of the time, you already have something in your home that can be used. Be sure all of your belongings have a place to be put away. If you don’t have room for everything, let go of some items to make space.
Do what you are able to handle
Set organizing goals and stick to them, but at the same time be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Don’t get hung up on what you can’t do. Do as much as you can.
Recognize the fact that everyone cannot do everything themselves. Admitting you need help shows you are serious about getting organized. Sometimes a friend or family member can make it easier to organize.
