It is very common for people to feel relieved after they’ve gotten rid of a lot of stuff. It’s easier for some than others, but it is uncanny how much happier people look and feel after letting go of excess items. Give it a try and see how it feels – today!

Coming Out of the Closet

in closets to declutter

I’ve been spending a lot of time in people’s closets lately and I must say, I do love the before and after adventure of a tightly packed closet! Here’s what I’ve been up to this week:
Waist deep in purses and shoes did not keep me down for long! This amazing client is determined to tackle her entire walk in closet and is not resting until we do! We started with the shelves that held sweaters and t-shirts, moved on to the belts, shoes, purses and hanging clothes. Next time we’ll finish up the hanging clothes and make order out of what’s left. To date, we have removed about 40 bags of items – beautiful clothes now in the hands of House of Ruth and some items being eBayed to earn money for my client. A win/win indeed!
Tips for your Closet:
  • Start with the dusty items inside your closet – the items that are hard to reach and haven’t seen the light of day in years. Check pockets and see how many items you can bag up and remove in an hour.
  • If you have a walk in closet, you can begin with the items that block you from walking into your closet and separate into categories so you can really see how much of each thing you have.
  • Tackle the shelves to uncover items that may have been sitting up there for years. You might find a lot of memorabilia and special things from yesteryear. You can keep them, but they don’t need to be in your closet where space is limited. They can be boxed up and kept in a memorabilia section of your home…maybe in a faraway less convenient place.
  • Remove the suitcases or at least consolidate them so they take up less room.
  • Try to do an hour at a time…or even 20 minutes at a time. You don’t want to burn out and quit before the magic happens!
  • Call for help if these tips are not working for you!
I hope YOU can come out of your closet energized and proud of yourself!
